Bought petrophysical software co.

Schlumberger Ltd., Houston, (NYSE: SLB) has acquired Montpellier, France-based Techsia SA, for an undisclosed price. Techsia is a supplier of petrophysical software and will be added to the Schlumberger Petrophysics Software Center of Excellence for the development of state-of-the-art solutions for the E&P industry. The firm's flagship petrophysics software will be combined with Schlumberger's reservoir modeling software. Techsia will continue to operate under its own name. Schlumberger Information Solutions president Tony Bowman says, "Techlog will form a powerful complement to the industry-leading Petrel earth model through an integrated approach to log and core petrophysical interpretation. This will be particularly valuable in enabling real-time workflows for well construction. In addition, once operating in the ocean environment, Techlog will feature the same level of open-platform capability as the rest of our new-generation products." Techsia founder, president and chief executive Stephanie Gottlib-Zeh says, "We see this move by Schlumberger as recognition of the high-quality software developed by Techsia. Accessing the Schlumberger global sales and business development organization will directly allow Techlog to achieve greater market penetration and accelerate the realization of integrated workflows from the wellbore to the reservoir to change the game for reservoir management. I am convinced that the cultural fit between Techsia and Schlumberger will foster increasing innovation and create further opportunities."
